It kind of snuck up on me last year but this time, I am fully prepared for the Hallmark Channel’s Christmas Keepsake Holiday preview in July. Wall-to-wall Christmas movies will be shown all week and the week is actually 9 days long. Then on Saturday the 11th, they drop a brand new one us – “A Family For Christmas”, or some such, starring Christmas Queen contenderess Lacey Chabert.
I’m sure there are plenty out there who feel it is ridiculous to start the yuletide celebrations in the dead of summer but I say Hallmark is ridiculous like a fox here. Ignoring the fact that the channel has been hopelessly adrift a sea of Golden Girls and Frasier and something called “The Middle” for months now, it is important to remind us all that we are moving forward, working towards something. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Don’t get me wrong, I respect the non-holiday seasons and very much plan to celebrate America on the 4th of July without the slightest dash of irony or liberal guilt but when it comes down to it, if my family were a house in the Game of Thrones universe, our motto would be “Christmas is Coming.” I suppose that could be our motto in this universe too but in any case, unlike “Winter is Coming”, ours wouldn’t be meant as a warning. It would be whatever the opposite of a warning is. And I suppose, an homage to Game of Thrones. Point is, I love Christmas and a year is a long time to wait so somewhere along this journey, it’s great to get a little glimpse of what’s to come.
Hopefully you feel the same way but if not, I suppose now I must officially warn you that Christmas IS coming and you have only a few scant months to get all the Jurassic Worlds and Sharknados out of your system. Because after Halloween, we go LIVE!
